Métier’s WorkLenz Now Available on Apps.gov

A portfolio management product popular among government agencies is now available for purchase on the cloud computing portal Apps.gov. WorkLenz, a product that portfolio management software developer
Métier Ltd. started offering 10 years ago, hit the government storefront earlier this month.
"For us, it’s a natural extension of what we’ve been doing for the past few years," said Sara Kessinger, Director of Knowledge Management at Arlington, Va.-based Métier. "It’s a way for us to bring enterprise software to the government at a lower cost of ownership."
"They don’t have to worry about infrastructure. They don’t have to worry about servers and hosting and IT operations. We take care of that, but they get to leverage the functionality that we’ve honed and developed over the past 10 years. It’s a win-win situation," Kessinger said.
One of the most popular features of WorkLenz is a Wiki tool that allows users to collaborate on lessons learned and project processes.
"It’s taking a framework that people are becoming more and more familiar with and putting it into the context of project portfolio management," Kessinger said. WorkLenz features a dozen different project management tools.
The product is already in sync with government security concerns. Because federal agencies have already been using the product for several years through an on-premise delivery method, the software has already gone through in-depth certification and accreditation, making it easy for the government to pick up and use the product.
Métier markets WorkLenz to federal, state and local governments and counts the Department of Transportation, California, and Miami Beach as clients.
Métier hopes the product will help clients make better decisions about what to fund within the overarching portfolio, giving "visibility into the health and viability of each of the projects within an organization," Kessinger said.
Métier was recently named one of 50 Great Places to Work in Washingtonian Magazine in the "Work Hard, Play Hard" category, which Kessinger says is true to the company’s culture.
"Everyone here really believes in what we’re doing and is motivated by the innovative things we’re doing to advance project portfolio management," Kessinger said.
"We’re excited about what the government is doing and what we hope that Apps.gov is going to do to try and Kessinger hopes that Apps.gov portal will change the way that the government buys enterprise software products like WorkLenz."
"We see it as a great growth opportunity in the coming years," Kessinger said.
