Washington Consulting, Inc. to Help Healthcare Providers Meet ‘Meaningful Use’ Criteria with Innovative Health IT Advisory Services

Management Solutions Firm, a Wholly Owned Subsidiary of Alion Science and Technology, to Provide Program Management for Electronic Health Record Technology

McLean, VA – March 1, 2010 –To support healthcare practitioners in their efforts to capture stimulus dollars and implement effective health IT solutions, Washington Consulting, Inc. (WCI), a wholly owned subsidiary of Alion Science and Technology, has launched a strategic health IT advisory services offering.

WCI’s strategic health IT advisory services are designed to help healthcare practitioners select, implement and, most importantly, adopt the best electronic health record (EHR) solution based on an organization’s specific workflows and requirements. WCI services include program and portfolio management, business case development and monitoring, requirements and process analysis, software selections, and systems implementation monitoring through development, implementation and deployment.

WCI supports healthcare providers in their quests to use IT for the exchange of health information. This is important because the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology is overseeing criteria for obtaining federal funds for meaningful use of EHRs. Healthcare providers can only capture the incentive dollars if they can demonstrate the use of EHR solutions in a meaningful way, and WCI’s program management enables safe user adoption, which is the critical component for meaningful use.

"The prospect of federal stimulus dollars has spurred some organizations to move quickly toward EHR adoption without a functional review of products, unsure as to which system will perform appropriately," said Damon Griggs, Alion Senior Vice President and President of the Washington Consulting subsidiary. "Many industry members are worried about moving too quickly and diminishing the quality of patient care and jeopardizing safety. By creating a standardized project management framework, WCI provides health IT stakeholders in the government and industry with a high level of visibility to audit progress, outcomes, potential risks and issues. This will guide organizations to select an EHR solution that will best accommodate their organization while reducing costs, improving efficiency and enhancing patient care."

WCI has been helping commercial, non-profit and federal clients oversee and implement complex business technology solutions since 2003. WCI’s recent efforts have been working with organizations, such as the Veterans Health Administration, to help evaluate and monitor health IT solutions’ ability to deliver anticipated benefits and to promote user adoption of these solutions. WCI is also serving on the Industry Advisory Council committee to help plan for broader Veterans Health Information Systems and Technology Architecture (VistA) deployment, particularly in areas such as user adoption, interoperability, economic costs and operational support. WCI’s experience and background in delivering full life-cycle health, and business and technology solutions will ensure that healthcare organizations select the technology that provides the most benefit for investment and successfully operates within the workflow of each organization.
