Reality Mobile won a subcontract with defense contractor SAIC to help the Port of Los Angeles Police Department share critical situation information in real time using cell phone cameras.
Under the contract, Reality Mobile will provide its RealityVision software product to the Port Police, enabling them to instantly share video captured on their cell phones. The product lets officers transfer images instantly between the field and command center. It also features GPS tagging capabilities so Port Police can view the locations of vehicles and vessels, enabling quick deployment during an emergency.
The project is part of a $4.2 million effort to support the Port Police, who secure 46 miles of waterfront and 14 square miles of heavy industrial complex in southern California. The Port of Los Angeles is the 8th busiest container port in the world and the busiest in the United States. It is also the top cruise ship center on the West Coast.
Herndon, Va.-based Reality Mobile, which started in 2003, integrates existing technologies such as built in cell phone cameras, fixed cameras, and Google Earth to give law enforcement the ability to communicate visually during emergencies.
Reality Mobile’s technology was used at Super Bowl XL in 2006 and during President Obama’s inauguration in 2009.
