The Entrepreneur Center @NVTC, a resource for technology-focused startups and entrepreneurs, held its first Entrepreneur Navigator Awards on Wednesday, January 22nd, at the Tower Club in Tysons Corner, Virginia. The evening honored both individuals and organizations that have contributed to building a strong entrepreneurial environment through their support of start-up businesses.

April Young, Senior Vice President and Managing Director of MMV Financial, received a standing ovation as the recipient of the Lifetime Navigator award for her work supporting start-up businesses. Calling entrepreneurs "the cornerstone of a free society" because of their willingness to take risks and build companies, Young said that the "most extraordinary thing about the last 20 plus years is being part of this community."

Ms. Young’s background includes 10 years at Comerica Bank as Senior Vice President and Managing Director of the Mid-Atlantic Technology and Life Sciences Division. She also has been an active member in the Northern Virginia business community, including serving as Director of the Virginia Department of Economic Development.

Other winners included Mike Lincoln, a Partner at Cooley Godward Kronish, and MindShare. Lincoln, who won the Navigator Award for his work in venture capital and teaching a course on emerging growth companies and venture capital at the University of Virginia School of Law, also serves on the Board of Directors of the Mid-Atlantic Venture Association and MindShare. MindShare, winning of the Organization Navigator Award, is designed to help CEOs from technology and life sciences companies in the Metro-DC region to build sustainable organizations.

Finalists for the awards included: Jonathan Aberman of Amplifier Venture Partners, Steve Meltzer of Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman LLP, George Mason University School of Management and TiE DC.

The Entrepreneur Center @NVTC was created 5 years ago to serve as a resource hub for technology-focused start-ups and entrepreneurs at every stage of their lifecycle.
