AOL is going to launch a new version of AOL Mail soon. To manage this effort, AOL has hired Apple veteran Alan Eyzaguirre as the new vice president of AOL Mail.
Eyzaguirre, most recently Apple's director of software product marketing in Europe, will be based in Silicon Valley, but work closely with the company's product and engineering teams in Dulles, Virginia and India.
At Apple, a company with an amazing track record of successful product launches, Eyzaguirre, helped launch a number of software products, including MobileMe, iLife, OS X and many others.
Eyzaguirre also previously worked at IDG on the Webby Awards and on Adobe Systems' Internet team.
AOL’s once popular e-mail service now ranks fifth in market share, according to analysis by comScore.
The company has 6,700 employees and owns three major technology facilities in Northern Virginia with over 1.8 million square feet of workspace.
